PlayBox Neo US is expanding its broadcast automation capabilities with updates that provide tighter control over operator access, faster availability to incoming media, and closer coordination between programming, traffic and playout.

The enhancements prioritize security privileges, EditShare integration in collaboration with EMAM Solutions, improvements in electronic program guide (EPG) functionality and enhanced BXF integration with traffic software.

Role-Based Security Strengthens Broadcast Workflow Access Control

PlayBox Neo Suite’s role-based user management lets administrators assign access to specific functions and toolsets. Editors, operators, and engineers can work within permissions suited to their responsibilities. This strengthenssecurity, accountability, and daily workflow transparency in demanding production settings where multiple users are working simultaneously.

Integration with Active Directory via LDAP with SSL encryption also lets organizations manage logins and permissions through their existing IT infrastructure. This simplifies account administration and helps operations align with enterprise security requirements as they become part of larger corporate networks.

EditShare MAM Integration Accelerates Ingest-to-Edit Workflows

In collaboration with PlayBox Neo partner EMAM Solutions, the PlayBox Neo ingest engine now connects with EditShare’s media asset management (MAM) environment. The integration makes incoming content available sooner and tracks media across connected systems.

With this integration, media is automatically registered and available for editing while recording continues, reducing the wait between capture and production. For news and sports teams, that means editors can begin working before ingest finishes. Once recording ends, the completed media is automatically registered in EditShare. Where proxy generation is configured, proxies are also registered for further use.

Electronic Program Guide Functionality Added to PlayBox Neo Playlist

PlayBox Neo U.S. has brought enhanced EPG functionality to the PlayBox Neo playlist, adding increased electronic program guide support to the scheduling workflow. Guide functionality is closely connected with the playlist that drives channel programming, supporting broadcasters’ need to manage both scheduled content and the program information that helps viewers find it. Accurate EPG data is critical in ensuring that the schedule aligns perfectly with target audience programming.

Enhanced BXF Integration Improves Broadcast Traffic and Playout Coordination

PlayBox Neo U.S. has also improved its BXF (Broadcast Exchange Format) connection and incorporated BXF formatting into the playlist to support two-way communication with traffic software. Developed by SMPTE, the BXF standard allows a broadcaster’s scheduling, advertising traffic and broadcast automation systems to exchange information in a common language. The enhancement keeps program schedules and commercial insertion aligned when advertising blocks change.

When traffic personnel revise a commercial block, the change needs to be received, acknowledged and reconciled with the playout schedule. The BXF connection provides that return communication, giving traffic teams confirmation that an update has been received rather than leaving them uncertain about whether it reached playout.

This exchange provides more current operational information than waiting for an as-run log to review what aired. PlayBox Neo customer Cheddar TV utilizes this in its workflow.

“Stations need to know who can change a playlist, how quickly editors can get to incoming content, and whether a revised commercial schedule has reached playout,” said Van Duke, Head of US Operations, PlayBox Neo. “These updates address those everyday concerns. For traffic teams especially, having a response back from playout helps close the loop when schedules change.”

PlayBox Neo manages the entire workflow from ingest, asset management, graphics creation, titling, subtitling, ad insertion, and scheduling through to playout. PlayBox Neo solutions can easily be customized to provide the precise capability required for any scale of channel playout management. With modular platform design, PlayBox Neo’s technology gives room for further expansion, which can include a single terrestrial, satellite, or online channel, through to global network transmission over multiple time zones.
